The small business “Rules of Acquisition” as we have come to know them.

Rules of Acquisition

During our happy/sad times selling Business Buffet quick and easy courses, we’ve had to learn some painful lessons. Here’s what WE do.

1. Pay yourself FIRST! Squirrel it away. Avoid (not EVADE) the taxman. Don’t let anyone know you have it.

2. Don’t pay anyone else until you have exhausted all humiliating, pleading, begging, and humbling yourself. People know you’re a small business. Take advantage of the fact.

3. Charge whatever people will pay after you’ve built in all kinds of INTANGIBLE value. The HARD assets of your product or service are too easy to duplicate, but the INTANGIBLES? Those intangibles, like style, mood, personality, service, THEY are YOURS ALONE! (Ad strategies might help here)

4. Go for forgiveness, not permission. Nobody knows whether you can do it or not, but their IMMEDIATE reaction is to say ‘no’ because, in most cases, they DIDN’T. So GO FOR IT!

5. Listen to advice, then do what you feel is right. You’ll learn more.

6. Nobody EVER EVER EVER EVER means what they say, despite the best of intentions.

7. NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER question people’s INTENTIONS. They are doing what they think is right. Feel free to question their ACTIONS, however.

8. NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER give up. Just when you do, you’ll find it would have worked.

9. Concentrate on using your strengths. Get somebody else who’s good where you’re weak.

10. Know your strengths. Get an independant personality profile to help you. Any good HR person can administer it.

11. Break the rules. Nobody ever created anything insanely great by following the usual paths.

12. If you keep doing what you’ve always done, you’ll keep getting what you’ve always got. CHANGE! (Victory) might help you here)

13. Do something threatening and unfamiliar every day. (Don’t worry. If you’re in your own business, this will happen automatically, without you having to DO ANYTHING).

14. Put yourself in jeopardy. Take small risks at first, then bigger ones as you get along. One of our “Secrets of Hong Kong Millionaires”* says: ”Go and buy BWM 750i. This will focus you on the task at hand as you try to make the payments, and in the process, you will come to afford everything you want. Don’t despair. You are one of the few, the brave, the committed. You WILL succeed because you are on the right path.” You are a WARRIOR!

15. Live the life you’re longing for. Fake it until you make it.

16. Don’t defend yourself until attacked. Attack every day however.

17. LOVE what you’re doing and you won’t work a day!

18. Let the socialists be nice. KILL THE COMPETITION! The workers at Pepsi are greeted with doormats with “Kill Coke Today!” written on them. They wipe their feet on the competition every day!

19. Sell your break-even to ONE account. The rest is gravy, and it’ll FORCE you to think BIGGER. BIG IT UP!

20. The difference between a Mercedes and a Ford is $100 a week. GET A LIFE! (Preferably your own.)

21. Don’t let people SHOULD on you. They know squat.
